School Board elections are May 14

They will be held in eight school districts: Appoquinimink, Christina, Colonial, Red Clay, Delmar, Indian River District 4, Lake Forest and Woodbridge. 

It’s important to learn as much as you can about the candidates running. We will be listing all candidate forums we find so you can hear their views and ask them questions about how they plan to hold the superintendent accountable for educating your children or grandchildren in a safe, positive environment.

Be part of your School Board candidate forums

Join one of these upcoming School Board Candidate Forums to have a unique opportunity to engage directly with the candidates running for the school board and learn more about their platforms, priorities, and vision for our schools. The forums are sponsored by First State Educate.

They will feature insightful discussions on important issues facing our school district, including education funding, curriculum development, student support services, and more. This is your chance to ask questions, share your concerns, and make informed decisions about who aligns best with your values and will do a good job representing your community on the school board.

Monday, April 22, 6 to 7 pm

Tuesday, April 30, 6 to 7 pm

APPOQUINIMINK SCHOOL BOARD FORUM

Tuesday April 23, 6 to 7:30 pm

Wednesday, May 1, 6 to 7 pm

School Districts of Failed Referendums Set Dates to Try Again

Appoquinimink SD referendum goes to voters again on April 23

This will be the second attempt to pass the district’s referendums. The first time the vote was narrowly defeated. Cape Henlopen SD tries again on May 21

Cape Henlopen joins the school districts that lost their first referendum vote in trying again, this time on May 21.  

On April 16, the Cape School Board discussed the details of their new request. It includes the removal of the building of a natatorium and lower ask.

Smyrna SD sets June 6 for new referendum vote

Details about the revised referendum will be forthcoming when they become available.

Kent County Town Hall Video 2023

The Kent County Save Our Schools town hall in May 2023 featured the following speakers in this order:

  • Academic Scores in Delaware: Dr. Tanya Hettler, Caesar Rodney Institute
  • Parental Rights & Involvement: Dr. Elana Fishbein, No Left Turn in Education
  • School Safety: Dr. Beth Conaway, retired principal and educator
  • Teacher Shortages: Celeste Bunting, Indian River School District
  •  School board candidates who attended the town hall were given an opportunity to introduce themselves.

Where are the parents in this fight for their children's education?

Dr. Elana Fishbein, founder of No Left Turn in Education, asks during the town halls: what happened to all the parents who would jump in front of a bus for their children? 

Why are they afraid to publicly stand up for their kids? C4DS would like to understand it better. Feel free to submit your feedback below.

Mark Your Calendars: May 14 is School Board Elections

Citizens for Delaware Schools has released its 2024 Voters Guide for the upcoming School Board elections. All candidates were asked to complete a survey that will inform voters about candidates’ positions on current education issues. The Guide is posted on this site.
